Vietnam, France agree to deal with trade barriers

rao-canVietnam and France agreed here Wednesday on necessity of dealing with barriers in trade exchanges and market access through bilateral dialogues.

The remark was made by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung and Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad Matthias Fekl at the third Vietnam-France high-level economic dialogue held in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Wednesday.

Vietnam is to lift import bans on French beef while France continues to call on Vietnam to remove barriers in importing French apples into the country.

In 2014, Vietnam-France trade revenue witnessed growth of 10.6 percent year-on-year to hit 3.54 billion Euros (3.77 billion U.S. dollars).

At the dialogue, Vietnam urged France to encourage the European Union (EU) for early ratification of Vietnam-EU Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) as well as support the conclusion of negotiations of Vietnam-EU free trade agreement in 2015, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA reported on Wednesday.

The two sides wish to accelerate cooperation in sustainable development, with a focus on important contents including environmental protection, green production, reduction of greenhouse gas emission, and response to climate change.

Earlier on the same day, the visiting French official met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai. At the meeting, Fekl expressed his desire that in the coming time, the two countries need to boost ties in areas including aviation, satellite supply, energy, and infrastructure among others.
