Get-together reviews VN-Cambodia economic ties

Hanoi, March 16 (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia on March 15 hosted a get-together to review economic cooperation between Vietnam and  Cambodia , with the participation of almost 80 Vietnamese and overseas Vietnamese enterprises.

Ambassador Ngo Anh Dung reviewed the remarkable social-economic situation of  Cambodia  and highlighted the fine development of the Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties, especially after Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to the country in late 2011. The Ambassador spoke highly of Vietnamese enterprises’ effective business activities  in  Cambodia, noting that many leading firms have contributed to socio-economic development and social security in the host country.

At present, Vietnam is the second-largest trading partner of Cambodia, with export turnover of 2.4 billion USD in 2011. Two way trade between the two countries last year reached 2.8 billion USD, up 50 percent over 2010. Vietnam now has about 60 investment projects in Cambodia, with a total registered capital of more than 1.1 billion USD. The two sides are  also  preparing for an investment promotion conference in  Ho Chi Minh City  in the near future.

At the get-together, businesspeople heard a report on economics and business administration presented by Dang Van Thanh, former Vice Chairman of the Economic and Budget Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam. According to the trade representative office of Vietnam in Cambodia, about 200 Vietnamese enterprises have businesses in Cambodia./.
