
Vietnam’s shrimp export is expected to reach US$ 788 million in the second quarter of this year, up by 10 per cent over the same period last year, according to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep).
The country’s total shrimp export is expected to reach $ 3.3 billion this year, up by 12 per cent over the last year.
According to Vasep, the country’s export of shrimp reached $ 619.2 million in the first quarter of this year , up by 7.9 per cent year – on – year.
Vietnam exported shrimp to 64 countries and territories in the world. The top ten leading shrimp export markets in the first 3 months of this year were the U.S, EU, Japan, China, South Korea, Canada, Australia, ASEAN, Taiwan and Switzerland. These 10 markets accounted for over 94 per cent of the country’s total shrimp export.
In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam’s export of shrimp to the U.S increased sharply by 30.6 per cent; that to China – up by 24.3 per cent; to EU – up by 2.9 per cent; and to Japan – up by 0.7 per cent while the export to South Korea was down by 8 per cent; to Canada – down by 13.5 per cent; to Australia – down by 5.1 per cent; to ASEAN – down by 9.7 per cent; to Taiwan – down by 29.9 per cent; and to Switzerland – down by 18.5 per cent.
The country’s export of shrimp to the U.K and Belgium in the first quarter of this year increased sharply by 49.4 per cent and 47.1 per cent, respectively over the same period of 2015.
In the first quarter, the U.S was the country’s biggest shrimp export market. It was followed by EU and Japan.
Vietnam’s shrimp export is expected to reach $ 788 million in the second quarter and $ 3.3 billion in the whole year of 2016.
