Vietnam achieves impressive export-import growth rate

According to the conclusions of the report "World Trade 2015 and Prospects for 2016" announced by WTO Director General Roberto Azevedo, Vietnam is the only country to achieve an impressive export-import growth in 2015 among the 30 leading export-import economies of the WTO, with an increase of 7.9%, to 162 billion dollars.

The report by World Trade Organisation indicated that Vietnam's exports soared 7.9% to US$162 billion, and its imports surged 12.3%, reaching US$166 billion last year.

In overview, the report painted a dismal picture of global trade in 2015, with total goods value dropping 13.2% to US$16.5 trillion. The US remains the largest importer with a total value of US$2.3 trillion, down 4.3%, followed by China with US$1.6 trillion, down 14.2%.

The report said the global trade picture is quite bleak 2015 trade value of goods fell by 13.2% globally, to US $ 16.5 trillion, while China dropped 2.9%, down to 2,270 billion dollars. In 2015, the US remains the world's leading importer, with imports worth 2,300 billion dollars (down 4.3%), followed by China 1.600 billion (down 14.2%).

While major exporters such as China, Turkey and Italy recorded a falling value of maritime shipped goods; Asian countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Myanmar posted strong growth, it said.

In addition to special and differential treatment provisions on providing technical assistance for developing and least-developed countries, the report also includes articles on establishing a permanent committee on trade facilitation at the WTO as well as national committee to facilitate domestic coordination and implementation of the agreement's provisions.

The report aims to set out measures for effective cooperation between customs and other appropriate authorities on trade facilitation and customs compliance issues while enhancing technical support and capacity building in the area.

In addition to providing local authorities and enterprises with an insight into the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and Vietnam- Eurasian Economic Union trade pact, the event will help them to map out effective investment policies in the future.
