Thailand is now Vietnam’s 11th biggest foreign investor, with most of its investment channeled into the manufacturing and processing industry, the Vietnamese Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) said, as reported by Tuoi Tre News.

As of the end of last month, Thai investors had run 428 projects across Vietnam, with a total registered investment of around US$7.88 billion, the FIA said on its website last week.

There are 200 Thai-invested manufacturing and processing projects in Vietnam. These are worth nearly $7 billion, with the next largest field of Thai investment being agro-forestry and seafood, with 31 projects worth $235.4 million, followed by retail and construction.

A Thai-invested project has an average investment of $18.4 million, compared to the average rate of $14 million for all other foreign investments in Vietnam.

According to the FIA, the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has attracted the biggest investment from Thailand, standing at $3.77 billion.

The northern province of Vinh Phuc was next with $744.4 million, followed by the southern province of Binh Duong, at $513.4 million.

Ho Chi Minh City is home to the highest density of Thai projects among Vietnamese localities, with 162 projects, or 38 percent of the total number.
