
Vietnam’s agro-forestry and fisheries export revenues were estimated at US$2.9 billion in April, bringing the total figure for the first four months of 2017 to US$10.8 billion, up 9.1% compared to the same period of 2016.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export value of major farming items hit approximately US$5.8 billion, up 12% year on year.
Specifically, Vietnam earned US$834 million from shipping 1.86 million tonnes of rice overseas from January to April, down 7.7% in volume and 6.9% against the previous year. In April alone, the figures stood at 573,000 tonnes and US$269 million.
Coffee exports in the first four months saw a 10.6% decline in volume year on year with 592,000 tonnes, but registered an increase of 19.2% in value with US$1.34 billion. The volume in April alone reached 138,000 tonnes generating a value of US$313 million.
The export revenue of wood and timber products increased by 12.7% to approximately US$2.4 billion in the January-April period. The United States, China and Japan were the three largest importers of Vietnam’s wood and timber items.
Vietnam raked in US$604 million from fisheries exports in April, elevating the four-month figure to US$2.1 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.2%.
The export value of vegetables and fruits was estimated to hit US$1 billion in the first four months of the year, up 32.6% compared to the same period of 2016. China, the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea were the four largest consuming markets of Vietnam’s vegetable and fruit products.
Vietnam imported roughly US$2.18 billion worth of agro-forestry and fisheries products in April, making the four-month figure US$8.52 billion, up 21.4% year on year.
