Import-export revenue estimated at over US$89 billion in Q1

Vietnam’s total import-export value was estimated at over US$89.3 billion in the first three months of this year, up 17.5% over the same period in 2016, according to the General Department of Customs.

Of the total, the import revenue was posted at over US$45.6 billion, up 22.4% while the export revenue was reported at over US$43.7 billion, up 12.8% over the same period last year.

Commodities that posted the highest export revenues in the first quarter included mobile phones and components, garments and textiles, computers, electronic products and components, footwear, machinery, equipment and spare parts.

Mobile phones and components recorded a total export value of over US$7.3 billion in three months, down 10.7% against the corresponding period last year while garments and textiles posted a total export value of US$5.6 billion, up 10.2% over the same period last year.

The export revenue of the group of computers, electronic products and components was estimated at over US$5.3 billion, up 42.3% compared to the same period last year. It was followed by footwear, machinery, equipment, and spare parts.

In the meantime, the group of machinery, equipment and spare parts reported the highest import revenue in three months. It was followed by the group of computers, electronical products and components; and the group of mobile phones and components.

Vice Director of the Export and Import Administration under the Ministry of Industry and Trade Tran Thanh Hai said that the export growth demonstrates the recovery of domestic production and contributes significantly to improving the balance of payments, GDP growth, job generation, and goods consumption.
