All shipments of Siluriformes including tra and basa fish of Vietnamese enterprises will be checked and certified to meet food safety requirements before they are allowed for export to the US, the National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (Nafiqad) said.
The checking period will be valid from July 15 to October 15 this year, Nafiqad announced on July 5.
Particularly, checks will apply to shipments of processing plants which have been recognised by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to meet the requirements for export to the US Only the fish products certified by the agro-forestry-fisheries quality centers under Natiqad can go stateside.
Natiqad has asked Siluriformes fish processing and exporting enterprises that have met the criteria to apply for food safety certificates.
The regional agro-forestry-fisheries quality centers should inform local fish exporters of registration procedures and issue food safety certificates for shipments bound for the US
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) is asked to help its members, especially Siluriformes fish exporters, and get updates about the required checks and procedures.
Around 58 Siluriformes fish processing plants in Vietnam have met FSIS’s requirements to sell their products to America.
