Shrimp farmer groups in Vietnam's Soc Trang province have signed a contract with local buyer Stapimex and Nordic Seafood to collaborate on obtaining Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification.
The signing of the contract -- organized by WWF–Vietnam -- represents one of the first links between small-scale farmer groups and seafood processing enterprises, international importers in the Mekong Delta, and a declaration of interest in promoting responsible aquaculture.
WWF’s aquaculture work in the Mekong Delta is funded by DANIDA, to promote better practice management (BMP) and certification for small scale shrimp farmers in the Mekong Delta.
