The Deputy PM made the point at a round-table economic conference between Viet Nam and the RoK which was co-organized by RoK’s Embassy in Viet Nam and Maekyung Media, on June 15 in Ha Noi.
Abundant cooperative opportunities
Korean Ambassador to Viet Nam Lee Hyuk reported that his country has invested US$45.1 billion in Viet Nam. The total investment was expected to exceed US$50 billion by year end. So far, over 400 Korean enterprises are operating in Viet Nam and contributing to around 38% of the host’s total export turnover.
Ambassador Lee Hyuk proposed the two sides promote cooperation in security and external affairs in line with the bright economic linkages. He suggested the two countries focus on the manufacturing and processing industries, IT, healthcare, tourism, science and technology.
“It is important for Viet Nam and the RoK to support each other in the win-win game,” he said.
Sharing experiences
Addressing the event, Deputy PM Hue showed the aspiration to promote the comprehensive economic ties.
Viet Nam, said Mr. Hue, encourages Korean enterprises to invest in such areas as manufacturing, production of electronic spare parts, semi-conductors, automobiles, ship-building, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, auxiliary industries, IT, energy, agriculture, environment, finance, banking, and infrastructure in PPP model.
“We welcome investors which own high-tech know-how, experienced administrative skills, global value chains, and effective connectivity policies with Vietnamese peers,” said the Deputy PM.
Not only large-scale businesses but also SMEs with high-tech experience, especially in food making, are also encouraged, he said.
According to Mr. Hue, the Vietnamese Government has spared no effort to improve the business and investment environment and demand domestic enterprises to build business culture and uphold the spirit of renovation and creation.
He was upbeat about the goal of US$70 billion trade turnover and a balance trade by 2020, fuelled by the Viet Nam-RoK Free Trade Agreement which took effect in December, 2015.
Viet Nam hopes to boost shipment of aquatic products, tropical fruits, utensils, electronic spare parts to the RoK and import high-quality products from the RoK, he finalized.
