The Iraqi market is full of opportunities for Vietnamese exporters in 2020. In the last five years, trade has continued to increase between the two countries with products such as food, electronics, machinery and plastics all being exchanged. But, if you want to do business with the Middle Eastern country, it’s likely you’ll need a Certificate of Conformity (COC) for your goods to clear customs.
An Iraq COC is now required for over 1,000 products across a range of categories before they can enter Iraq’s lucrative import scene. The measure dictates that all goods must submit the certification via an authorized third-party inspection agency like HQTS.
If the exporter needs to issue a certificate for products outside the scope of COC, they can apply for a Certificate of Inspection (COI), a one-time customs clearance document applied to each individual shipment.
COC is awarded by Iraq’s Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC), which plays a vital role in the Iraqi economy. According to local law, all imported goods to the country must be inspected by a third-party inspection company authorized by the COSQC. Given the scale of Iraq’s reconstruction and development efforts, 2020 is a significant opportunity for Vietnamese exporters.
