
Vietnam’s trade revenue totaled over US$ 216.76 billion in the first eight months of this year, increased by 12.9 per cent over the same period last year, according to the figures of the General Department of Customs.
Of the figure, the export turnover was at $ 106.5 billion, up by 9.2 per cent; and import value was at $ 110.26 billion, up by 16.8 per cent. So the country’s trade deficit totaled $ 3.76 billion in the first eight months.
The top ten export commodities were:
1. Cell phones and accessories: Cell phones and accessories was leading in the list of top ten major commodities exported by the country in the period with the export turnover of $ 20.18 billion, up by 32.6 per cent over the same period last year, according to the figures of the General Department of Customs.
In August, the country exported $ 3.02 billion worth of cell phones and accessories, up by 19.1 per cent or $ 485 million month – on – month.
EU was leading in the list of the country’s major export markets of cell phones and accessories in the first eight months of this year with the export turnover of $ 6.7 billion, up by 22.3 per cent and accounted for 33.2 per cent of the total. It was followed by the U.A.E with $ 3.17 billion, up by 23 per cent; the U.S - $ 1.78 billion, up by 109.5 per cent; Germany - $ 1.2 billion, up by 42.2 per cent; and Austria - $ 1.12 billion.
2. Textiles and garments: Vietnam earned nearly $ 2.29 billion from export of textiles and garments in August and $ 14.9 billion in the first eight months of this year.
Of the figure, the export to the U.S reached $ 7.34 billion, up by 13.4 per cent; to EU - $ 2.72 billion, up by 3.5 per cent; to Japan - $ 1.77 billion, up by 5.9 per cent.
3. Computers, electronic products and components: The country exported $ 1.42 billion worth computers, electronic products and components in August and $ 9.99 billion in the first eight months of this year. The figures were up by 16.7 per cent and 53.5 per cent, respectively over the same period of 2014.
The export of computers, electronic products and components to EU reached $ 1.97 billion, up by 57.9 per cent; that to the U.S - $ 1.74 billion, up by 60.2 per cent; to China - $ 1.72 billion, up by 31.3 per cent; to Hong Kong - $ 1.15 billion, up by 141.3 per cent year – on – year.
4. Footwear of all kinds: Vietnam earned $ 983 million from footwear exports in August and $ 7.95 billion in the first eight months of this year.
Of the figure, the export to the U.S reached $ 2.72 billion, up by 28 per cent and accounted for 34.2 per cent of the total; that to EU - $ 2.66 billion, up by 13.4 per cent; to China - $ 504 million, up by 51.2 per cent; and to the U.S - $ 458 million, up by 23.8 per cent year – on – year.
5. Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts: The earnings from export of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts totaled $ 5.17 billion in the first eight months of this year, up by 9.7 per cent over the same period last year. However, the export turnover in August reached only $ 685 million, down by 1.9 per cent month – on – month.
By the end of August, Vietnam’s export of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts to the U.S hit over $ 1 billion, up by 23.4 per cent; that to Japan - $ 932 million, up by 0.9 per cent; to China - $ 445 million, up by 13.6 per cent.
6. Wood and furniture: Vietnam’s export of wood and furniture reached over $ 590 million in August and $ 4.35 billion in the first eight months of this year.
By the end of August, the country’s export of wood and furniture to the U.S reached $ 1.69 billion, up by 19.3 per cent; to Japan - $ 654 million, up by 3.2 per cent; to China - $ 575.8 million, down by 1.9 per cent year – on – year.
7. Seafood: The country exported $ 593 million worth of seafood in August and $ 4.16 billion in the first eight months of this year.
The country’s major seafood export markets in the period included the U.S - $ 799 million, down by 30.1 per cent year – on – year; EU - $ 751 million, down by 17.3 per cent; Japan - $ 650 million, down by 11.1 per cent; and South Korea - $ 356 million, down by 12 per cent.
8. Crude oil: Vietnam exported 823,000 tons of crude oil worth of $ 295 million in August and nearly 6.3 million tons worth of $ 2.74 million in the first eight months of 2015, down by 48.6 per cent or $ 2.6 billion compared with the same period last year.
Vietnam exported crude oil mostly to Singapore - $ 1.14 million tons; Japan – 1.09 million tons; China – 1.05 million tons; and Malaysia – 1.04 million tons.
9. Handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats and umbrellas: Vietnam earned over $ 251 million from exports of handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats and umbrellas in August, up by 3.5 per cent over the previous month. The figure brought the country’s total export of handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats and umbrellas in the first eight months of this year to $ 1.94 billion, up by 15.6 per cent year – on – year.
The U.S was the country’s biggest export market of handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats and umbrellas in the first eight months of this year with the export turnover of $ 821 million, up by 14.4 per cent year – on – year. It was followed by EU with $ 499 million, up by 15.2 per cent; and Japan - $ 208.7 million, up by 10.8 per cent.
10. Coffee: Vietnam exported 92,000 tons of coffee worth of $ 186 million in August and 879,000 tons worth of $ 1.81 billion in the first eight months of this year, down by 32.2 per cent in quantity and 32.6 per cent in value over the same period last year.
11. Rice: By the end of August, Vietnam has exported over 4 million tons of rice worth of $ 1.74 billion, down by 14.3 per cent over the same period last year.
In the first eight months of this year, China was still leading in the list of the country's major rice export markets with 1.51 million tons; then the Philippines - 612,000 tons; Malaysia – 371,000 tons; Ghana – 250,000 tons; and Cuba – 287,000 tons.
12. Yarns of all kinds: In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam exported over 638,000 tons of yarns of all kinds worth of $ 1.71 billion, up by 3.2 per cent over the same period last year.
The major export markets of yarns of all kinds were China – nearly 329,000 tons, up by 37.5 per cent; South Korea – 47,700 tons, up by 8.4 per cent; and Turkey – 65,800 tons, down by 6.9 per cent.
