02.12-16

The Vietnam-Ghana business forum was held on November 28 in Hanoi on the occasion of the visit to Vietnam by the African country’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Robert Ahomka-Lindsay.

Ghana is currently one of Vietnam’s top trading partners in West Africa, said Do Quoc Hung from Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).

At the forum, the two sides informed each other of the other’s economic situation, expecting that they will discover more cooperation opportunities to boost bilateral business, trade and investment ties.

According to Deputy Minister Robert Ahomka-Lindsay, Ghana is the process of modernisation and is calling for foreign investors.

Speaking at the forum, Nguyen Minh Phuong also from the MOIT said that Vietnam’s exports to Ghana reached US$278.3 million in 2018 while the country imported US$294.6 million worth of goods from Ghana.

In the first ten months of 2019, Vietnam already exported US$224 million worth of goods and purchased US$287 million worth of goods from the African country.

Vietnam’s main exports to Ghana are rice, household appliances, clinker, steel products, garment products and smartphones, whereas Ghana provide Vietnam with input materials for manufacturing such as raw cashew and wood.

It is notable that Ghana is the largest importer of Vietnamese rice in Africa, with 371,181 tonnes worth US$214.1 million.
