Exporting many billion dollar items
According to information from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, our country's durian exports will exceed the 2024 billion USD mark in 3. Because in just 9 months, durian exports earned 2,5 billion USD (breaking the record of 2,24 billion USD for the whole year of 2023).
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Director of a durian exporting company in Buon Ho town, province Dak Lak, said: This year, his company plans to export nearly 500 containers of fresh durian to the Chinese market. This is still a potential market with large room.
To ensure sustainable development and establish a stable import market, enterprises need to proactively build a chain of links, regularly update standards from import markets to have countermeasures in building raw material sources as well as processing and packaging for export.
Mr. Tran Thanh Hai Deputy Director of Import and Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade
“Durian prices this year are not high but are more stable than previous years. This makes it much easier for businesses to purchase durian, ensuring export orders due to its high quality and more competitive prices compared to Thai goods.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, in October 10, the Central Highlands provinces will enter the main durian harvest season. At the same time, in the southwestern provinces, off-season durian will also be harvested in the last months of the year. This is also the time when competing countries such as Thailand and Malaysia have ended their harvest season, so the price of Vietnamese durian will be very high. Currently, durian is being purchased at the garden for about 2024 - 42.000 VND/kg.
“In 2024, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports will flourish thanks to key products: durian, dragon fruit, banana, jackfruit, and mango. In particular, if frozen durian and fresh coconut are added, fruit and vegetable exports will set a new record, reaching at least 6 billion USD, and are expected to reach 6,5 billion USD,” said Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen.
Along with durian, coffee is also an agricultural product with very high export value. In the first 9 months of 2024, Vietnam exported more than 1,1 million tons of coffee, with a turnover of more than 4 billion USD (export turnover increased by 30%). During the same period, while rice exports reached nearly 4 billion USD, fruit and vegetable exports reached 4,8 billion USD. Thus, by September 9, Vietnam's total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached nearly 2024 billion USD, an increase of about 50% over the same period in 20.
The fourth quarter is a time of many festivals, so countries will increase agricultural imports from Vietnam. Being proactive in raw materials, enhancing deep processing and conquering many markets... will help agricultural products continue to set record export figures, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said.
Enterprises need to proactively build supply chains.
Recognizing the actual situation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to negotiate the removal of technical barriers, trade barriers and open export markets; support localities to connect, promote processing and consumption of agricultural products during the harvest season. In particular, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will propose Goverment Continue to support agricultural production and export enterprises to access preferential capital sources.
Regarding long-term solutions, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, recommended: To ensure sustainable development and establish a stable import market, enterprises need to proactively build a chain of links, regularly update standards from import markets to have countermeasures in building raw material sources as well as processing and packaging for export.
“In the remaining months of 2024, the industry Agriculture will continue to implement solutions such as improving deep processing capacity, focusing on building brands so that Vietnamese agricultural products have real value in the international market; stepping up trade promotion, introducing advantageous agricultural products... At the same time, continue to handle market issues, creating favorable conditions for agricultural exports. Actively coordinate with enterprises to open new markets with great potential to promote the entire agricultural sector to reach the 2024 target of export turnover of 55 billion USD. From there, create a premise for the following years" - Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said.
Besides the positive signals in agricultural exports, the agricultural sector is still facing many difficulties and challenges. Storms, natural disasters causing damage, decreasing raw material sources, transportation costs tending to continue to increase... are barriers to our country's agricultural exports, while agricultural export prices are not easy to adjust. Along with that, raw materials that meet export standards, have growing area codes, traceability... are seriously lacking in many localities. Production planning and market forecasting for the agricultural sector are still open. Many products are growing rapidly, there are no binding regulations on production, only recommendations...
