Singapore , November 14 (VNA) – Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and visiting US Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew have talked about ASEAN’s efforts to make wider and deeper integration to boost its economic growth.

During their November 13 meeting in Singapore , they also reviewed the progress made in negotiations for a Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, which have also involved Singapore and the US .

The two sides also discussed how to further strengthen bilateral cooperation while exploring other regional and international issues, including the global financial and economic prospects and recent developments in Asia .

Lew, who is on his first visit to Singapore as a US Treasury Secretary, also had a working session with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, during which they underscored matters related to bilateral ties, especially in taxation.

They also talked the implementation of the governance reforms of the International Monetary Fund, recent financial developments in Asia , and the TPP.

According to Shanmugaratnam, Secretary Lew’s visit to Singapore testifies to Washington ’s continued active involvement in Asia and its position as an important partner of ASEAN and the region.
