Thailand expects 7 million tourists in Q4

Bangkok , September 26 (VNA/NNT) – Thailand expects to welcome 7 million foreign visitors in the last quarter of 2013, bringing the yearly number to 26 million or 17 percent increase against last year.

The Thai Tourism Council said that Chinese tourists account for the largest percentage, with an estimated 4 million this year.

As Europe and the United States have been showing signs of economic recovery, Thailand continues to be a popular destination for visitors due to its value for money.

The council is set to propose December 30 as a holiday to the government in a bid to boost domestic spending during the New Year period. It has called for more measures to spur domestic demand to help cushion the impact of global economic woes.

The agency has expressed support for the tax cut for luxury goods but cautioned that the government must ensure the cut will not affect local products.
