Indonesia ensures security for APEC Summit

Jakarta, September 25 (VNA) – The Indonesian National Police ( Polri ) have completed preparations to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Bali next month.

In a recent press release, the police further said they will deploy around 5,000 personnel for the event that is expected to attract the participation of heads of 21 APEC member economies, 5,000 delegates, 1,500 journalists and 400 business leaders.

POLRI Spokesperson Hilman Thayid said on September 24 that the police, in cooperation with the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the Bali administration, were ready to thwart any terror attempt.

POLRI will implement tightened security measures for the event during which bomb squads will make sure that no explosives or weapons can be smuggled into the venue, added Thayid.

The preparations were made in the content of public concern over a series of shootings and bomb attacks in the country over the past two months that have left four police officers dead and many others injured
